About Circular Energy

Circular Energy is een Nederlandse start-up die wordt gerund door een team van mensen met ervaring in de werelden van exploratie en productie, stroomopwekking (powergen) en het afvangen van CO2 (carbon capture). Er komt veel specialistische kennis kijken bij ons concept. We zijn dan ook op zoek naar enthousiaste teamleden!


Core team

Arnold Groot MBA - CEO

Mr. Groot studied Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Twente University, and received his MBA at Henley Management College on the "Application of Real Options Theory to the upstream Oil & Gas industry". His 26 years professional career includes several engineering, asset management, and corporate planning and economic functions at Shell, E-On, Petro-Canada, and Suncor. Till date he is general managers Beldick Automation, active on the field of automation solutions for petrochemicals, oil & gas production and refining, and power generation industries.

Purvi Jha MBA – Process Engineering Manager

Mrs. Jha is an international MBA graduate with 10 years of experience in process engineering, and in project and production management at the oil & gas sector. During her study Chemical Engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology she was awarded the gold medal for excellent academic performance. During her MBA at Erasmus University Rotterdam, she became winner of the 2015 SABIC Innovation Challenge. She was part of the market research team of the Energy & Climate department at Triodos Bank. After career in process engineering at Reliance Industries, Kongsberg Oil & Gas, and Jacobs Engineering, she is now responsible for all surface installations at Circular Energy.

Luc Schmitt MBA – Advisor Structured Finance

Mr. Schmittt obtained his MBA and Financial Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Since then he pursued his career as finance professional within the corporate banking industry with expertise area’s covering a complete product range of debt solutions and other corporate finance themes  such as risk analysis, financial modelling, mergers and acquisitions, capital structuring and valuation. Client industries of expertise are mainly offshore, maritime and energy. Key responsible for the investment activities of Circular Energy B.V. 

Helma Cruts Ir. -- Petrophysicist

Mrs Cruts has held various positions at Shell in Petrophysics and Petroleum Engineering, among others, for fields in Oman, Gabon, Kuwait as well as several exploration projects. As a course director, she has developed modules for the training of engineers and earth scientists in the field of exploration and production. For NOGEPA and IRO she was the key coordinator education and labor for the oil, gas and offshore industries. Mrs. Cruts holds a MSc from the TU Delft.

Femke Perlot Hoogeveen MA – PA & Communications Manager

Mrs. Hoogeveeen graduated from the VU Amsterdam on the area of political sciences/international relations. She built her experience on the back of several roles with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a program coordinator and policymaker on energy security. Thereafter, she worked for offshore company Navingo as a conference manager and reporter (offshoreenergytoday.com). Currently, she makes full use of her broad oil&gas and governmental network for Circular Energy.  

Lidewij Schutte – Intern Subsurface Design

Lidewij is a Master student at Utrecht University. She is doing her master thesis research with Circular Energy and looks into the strength of the reservoir rock and caprock. Besides failure criterion, she will make an analysis of the reservoir and investigate the implications of injecting CO2 in a reservoir. She is a student of the master Earth Structure and Dynamics and follows a combination of the tracks “Basins, Orogens and the Crust-Lithosphere System” and “Earth Materials” and took a couple of courses in the Earth Resources stream. She holds a BSc in Earth Sciences of the Utrecht University.

Donatas Dembinskas – Intern Electrical Design

Donatas holds an Master of Science (MSc) from Delft University of Technology and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His areas of specialization are Electrical engineering and Wind energy. His master thesis was based on modelling, simulation and control of offshore energy conversion and transmission through DC link. Donatas is involved in electrical design and other electrical related issues in the Circular Energy project.

Bart Cornelissen IR, MBA

Partner Strategy and Operations Deloitte 

Mr. Cornelissen is a partner in Deloitte’s Monitor Strategy & Operations Practice. He is an executive advisor with 15+ years of strategy consulting experience in the oil & gas space with a focus on emerging markets (among others Africa, India, Ukraine, Russia, Middle East) where he has worked and lived.

Mr. Cornelissen addressed issues around strategy development and implementation, post-merger-integration, joint-ventures and partnerships, operational transformation and excellence, and organizational effectiveness.

Kim Smit, MA

Several Non-Executive positions. Former Shell CFO department

A highly experienced finance executive who has built a broad and international career through a wide range of roles in Royal Dutch Shell. Strong experience gained from Finance roles in Commercial, Functions and Business Envrionments conducted in different geographical and in global roles. Most recently, the CFO designate for a multi-billion dollar petrochemicals project in the State of Qatar. Recognized as an authentic leader with a reputation for effective business partnering at executive level. Combines strong commercial acumen with deep functional expertise and very personable leadership.

Drs. Ruut Schalij

Partner eRisk Group

Mr Schalij is a partner at eRisk Group, a company that combines knowledge of financial and energy markets to provide strategic advice to both energy producers and governments. Before this, he served as director at Nuon with responsibility over strategic development and was active in derivatives trading and risk management at Rabobank. Mr. Schalij has an MSc-degree from the University of Groningen.


Anne-Mette Jorgensen

Consultant Eco-Effective Strategies

Anne-Mette is an independent consultant with a focus on the interaction of offshore energy installations and marine ecosystems. She grew up in Denmark and studied International Relations at the University of Amsterdam. She has more than 20 years of experience in issue management, policy development and stakeholder engagement on sustainability-related topics ranging from GMOs in agriculture to decommissioning and other human activities in the North Sea. she has worked as a consultant for various large multinational corporations and government institutions, as a team-manager for the Dutch green NGO Natuur & Milieu and currently also works as director of North Sea Futures and as research manager at Milieu Centraal (an independent organisation providing consumers with environmental advice). 

Rene Peters IR, PhD

Director Gas Technology at TNO Energy

Currently responsible for market developments in the gas technology sector within the Energy theme of TNO. Within the Dutch Innovation Program on Gas Mr. Peters is responsible for the Upstream Gas Innovation Program. Mr. Peters also serves as the Account Manager for Shell within TNO, and is leading the joint research program on shale gas of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). Mr. Peters serves as a member of the board of IRO since 2015 and is a member of the council of experts for metrology of the Ministry of Economic affairs.
